Chloe

Chloe is ready for her new home!

Chloe is being fostered in Central CT

Here is what her foster mom

has to say about her:

Chloe is a very sweet, smart girl. She is approximately 3 years old, spayed, stands 18 inches at the shoulder and is working to drop to a healthy weight. She walks well on leash and loves car rides. She shows no fear or discomfort with any new people or places. She loves to be petted and brushed, and was fine with getting a bath. She did great with the groomer, standing politely on the table for nail clips and brushing.

Chloe will bark at people when they enter the house but the minute they sit down she is right there seeking pets. Chloe LOVES men. She has met two of my adult sons and was immediately comfortable and soliciting pets from them. She is not quite as fast warming up to women or children but still jumps up next to them to be petted.  Bring out the treats and she comes alive, showing off her sits and lay downs! She takes her treats very gently – when not too excited!

Chloe is very attuned to a person’s energy. If you are nervous, she is nervous. Give her some happy talk and she relaxes.

Chloe loves small dogs and is immediately comfortable when meeting them. When she gets to know them, she will readily initiate play. She is not as comfortable with meeting dogs her size or bigger and will growl when they come over to sniff. She allows the sniffing and there is no hard eye or snarling, but she is clearly uncomfortable and continues with more of a grumbling until they move away. Once she has spent a short bit of time in their company, she relaxes and they are all fine together. Chloe is not, though, interested in playing with the big dogs although she has followed them out in the yard when they take off after a squirrel or such.

Chloe will choose to remove herself from proximity to pushy dogs. If she is forced to stay in close confines with them, she will take the pushy behavior for a while but eventually she will let the dog know she’s had enough and will lean in and show teeth. I would say no dog parks for this girl. She has no interest in rough dog play with the big dogs.

I believe Chloe would be able to coexist with a dog savvy cat once the novelty wore off, but she will need active correction to stop her from chasing. She was very gentle in her initial meeting of my cat. When the cat hissed at her she backed off, but then when the cat moved up out of reach, Chloe became more interested and animated. I called her and she readily came with me out of the area. She has shown increased interest in looking into the area the cat stays in but she respects the gate and loses interest when the cat stops moving.

When Chloe first arrived, the first toy she went to play with was a soft one and she began trying to remove the squeaker. When I tried to take the toy, she growled and protected her prize. She was  easily redirected just by walking away and calling her.  Since then whenever she has had something I wanted to take I have either traded a treat for it and she readily gives it up, or I walk away and she abandons it to follow me, both of which gets her lots of pets and praise. She loves hard chews. Yak cheese is her absolute favorite. Now that she has been here awhile and the toys and chews remain plenty, she has stopped protecting.

All my dogs respect another dog’s possession of a toy or chew, but they do get close when walking by. Chloe has shown no sign of guarding from any of them and respects their space when they have a toy, a chew, or the prized sleeping spot next to me.

Chloe is housetrained and knows how to use a dog door. She has not had any accidents since day one. There are times I’ve been gone as much as four hours (dog door is closed when I leave) and although she whines and barks until I am out of sight, she does settle down and sleeps. There have been no accidents, no chewing, no getting into things she shouldn’t.

Chloe IS trained to use pee pads. I always keep a pad in the walk in shower for my PomChi, who cannot always wait until I get home. For more than a week, Chloe never used it and never had accidents. I think she finally “discovered” the pad was in there, and now sometimes when I get home I see she has used the pad. She used it one day while I was home when it was very cold and sleeting outside. Understandable, but I still call her a princess, LOL.

She is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night in the bedroom crate. She has not been crated at all during the day and does not need to be. She also respects a boundary and has not tried to push past any gates. I did eventually stop closing the crate door at night since she is so well behaved and sleeps quietly all night, whether in the crate or a dog bed, her choice.

Chloe is low to medium energy. She is getting stronger with more movement and continuing her weight loss journey. She would make a great only dog or in a home with just small dogs. Dog savvy cats only, and be ready to work with her until the novelty wears off. I would say no young children. I am a senior and find her super easy. She is perfect for older adult(s).

She has been an easy foster from the start, but if anything, she has gotten EASIER over time!
