Star

Sadly, Star has recently crossed the rainbow bridge.
She was not feeling well, and after several vet visits, she left us.

We wish to convey a special than you
to her fosters, Adam, Joey and their girls,
for giving Star a year of amazing care, security,
and above all, love.

Star’s original owner passed away and she was in a shelter slated to be euthanized at 14 years old. She has some joint issues, and came to us quite a bit over weight and out of shape, and with some hair-loss from a skin infection that’s now been resolved. She’s making a lot of progress on her weight and health since having been put on supplements and been switched to a freshly cooked plant-based diet.

We don’t know a lot about her back story, but one thing is clear, while she might have not gotten enough exercise, and maybe been over-fed, her original owners must have loved her, because more than any border collie we’ve adopted or fostered over the years, Star is a real lover.

Here’s Star’s deal:

Star is fully house trained and good on a walk (and with her health issues, she really needs to be adopted by someone who will faithfully take her on walks daily). Due to her joint issues, there are a couple of supplements Star will need to be on for the rest of her life.

In the setting of other dogs, surprisingly, she assumes an alpha role in the pack pretty instantly. That being said, she’s elderly, and her joints make her a bit fragile, so she really shouldn’t be in a home with crazy or aggressive dogs. When she sees another dog out on a walk, she actually has some real get-up-and-go and will hurry up to go meet them with friendly intentions.

As far as people go, Star wants a male companion. She hardly pays any attention to any of the females in our house but is never more than a few feet away from a man and just wants to curl up next to them. Sexist? Maybe. But she’s a dignified older lady, and she’s entitled to her preferences, I guess.

She’s fine around kids but might be a little more curious than you’d like in a house with cats or smaller animals. She’d like to chase squirrels, but she’s not the fastest Border Collie in the galaxy, so her attempts are just kinda cute and silly.

Give this weary ol’ girl a nice home where she can spend her golden years loving you with her snuggly sweetness.”
